Description The Pennsylvania composer Joe Burke began his musical career as a pianist accompanying silent films and an arranger for a music publishing firm. Soon he was working as a film actor, he moved to Hollywood, and from the 1920s he began to write film scores and songs. He published ‘Tiptoe through the tulips’ in New York in 1929, with lyrics by Al Dubin. The song has been used in a number of films, notably ‘Gold Diggers of Broadway’, ‘Confidential Agent’, ‘Wrecked’, ‘Insidious’ and the cartoon ‘Sinkin’ in the Bathtub’. In the lyrics, the lover invites his sweetheart to tiptoe through the tulips with him.
